         Im Rahmen des SPIRAL2 Projektes (GANIL (National large heavy ion Accelerator) in Caen, Frankreich) wird eine Einrichtung für die Erzeugung von exotischen Kernen mit großem Anteil an Protonen und Neutronen bei einer Vielzahl von Massen errichtet. Ein supraleitender linearer Beschleuniger (LINAC) wurde gebaut und wird einen starken stabilen Ionenstrahl liefern. Um die Ionenstrahlen zu transportieren, sollen die Strahlstrecken sich im Vakuum befinden. Außerdem ist ein Druck von 10^-8 mbar erforderlich. Der erforderliche Druck kann mittels Vorpumpen erzielt werden, welche an den Anfangspunkten von den Strahlstrecken (LS, LT und LHD) positioniert werden sollen. Damit wird der Vordruck in den verschiedenen Strahlstrecken gewährleistet, welche in Modulen unterteilt sind. Als Hauptpumpen sind Turbomolekularpumpen vorgesehen. Pro Modul werden 2 bis 3 Pumpen eingesetzt.
